I've had the privilege of photographing multiple weddings at Hyatt Ziva Cancun, one of Cancun's premier destination wedding resorts. I enjoy photographing here, as the resort offers a remarkable variety of locations, from multiple beaches and oceanfront ceremony spaces to the iconic Cliff Gazebo and lighthouse. Its location at the tip of Cancun's Hotel Zone creates a wide range of backdrops, allowing every wedding to have its own look and feel without ever leaving the property. Below you'll find real weddings I've photographed at Hyatt Ziva Cancun, along with resort insights and photography tips to help you plan your own destination wedding.
Hyatt Ziva Cancun is one of Cancun's most popular destination wedding resorts. Located at the tip of Cancun's Hotel Zone, the resort is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and offers multiple ceremony and reception venues, ensuring every wedding feels unique. Couples and their guests love the wide selection of restaurants, quality food, live entertainment, and the convenience of having everything in one location. The resort's position on the peninsula means its beaches are often less affected by sargassum than many resorts farther down the coast, making it an attractive choice for beach weddings and oceanfront photographs. Having photographed multiple weddings here, I enjoy the variety the resort offers and the opportunity to create a different look for every couple without ever leaving the property.Paragraph
Hyatt Ziva Cancun offers more variety for wedding photography than any other resort in the Cancun hotel zone. My favourite area is the lighthouse and rocky shoreline at the tip of the property. The turquoise Caribbean water is spectacular, and the natural rock formations provide some protection from the wind, allowing us to photograph in multiple directions without worrying about hair blowing.
Beyond the lighthouse, the resort offers several distinct locations, including long docks that extend into the Caribbean, a larger white-sand beach, and an oceanfront gazebo with panoramic Caribbean views. Each area has its own character, allowing you to receive a diverse collection of photographs without ever leaving the property.
One of the biggest decisions you'll make is choosing the right time for the ceremony. At Hyatt Ziva Cancun, (if possible) I recommend scheduling your ceremony 2 to 2.5 hours before sunset. This gives you comfortable lighting for the ceremony, family photographs, photos with your bridal party and couples' portraits. Then, if you enter your reception just as the sun is setting, you can have your first dance at sunset. Because Hyatt Ziva offers beautiful outdoor reception locations, having your first dance at sunset could be magical.
Every wedding is different, and the ideal timeline depends on several factors, including the time of year and your vision. If you'd like help planning your wedding day at Hyatt Ziva Cancun, feel free to email me at info@deansandersonweddings.com. I'm always happy to share the timeline I recommend based on my experience photographing weddings at the resort.
The Cliffside Gazebo is my favorite ceremony location at Hyatt Ziva Cancun. Perched above the Caribbean, it offers incredible ocean views and one of the most iconic backdrops in Cancun. The smaller gazebo near the lighthouse is another beautiful option if you're looking for a more intimate setting. If it rains, Hyatt Ziva also has some of the better indoor backup locations I've seen at a resort
I recommend scheduling your ceremony 2 to 2.5 hours before sunset. This allows plenty of time for the ceremony, family photographs, couple's portraits, and a relaxed timeline before your reception. If that's not possible, anywhere between 1.5 and 3 hours before sunset works well.
My favorite location is the lighthouse and rocky shoreline, where the turquoise Caribbean water creates an incredible backdrop and the rocks provide some protection from the wind. I also love the cliffside walkway, the beach near the lighthouse, the main white sand beach, and the oceanfront walkways throughout the resort.
Before your wedding, the coordinators can sometimes be slow to respond to emails. Once you arrive, however, the service is outstanding and you'll receive their full attention. As with most Caribbean weddings, it's also worth considering the wind when choosing your hairstyle for an outdoor ceremony.
Most showers pass within 10–15 minutes, and because of Hyatt Ziva's location you can often see the weather moving in across the water. If the rain doesn't clear, the resort has some of the better indoor backup ceremony locations in Cancun.
Most couples book 4 to 6 hours of coverage, depending on their timeline and plans. If you're unsure, feel free to email me, and I'll recommend the amount of coverage that best suits your wedding day. One thing be careful of our people offering 8 - 10 hours, so you're definitely not going to need that much time.
Yes. My team and I regularly photograph and film weddings at Hyatt Ziva Cancun. Drone footage is also available, and Hyatt Ziva is one of my favorite resorts for aerial photography and video because of its unique location and stunning coastline.
